Pine
Ridge Educators Nominated
|
|
PINE RIDGE -- The Office of Indian Education Program (OIEP) has nominated three Pine Ridge High School educators for national recognition. That office, in conjunction with the National Indian School Board Association, will honor the national winners in St. Louis in July. Carla Brewer, a gifted-and-talented program instructor, has been nominated for "Teacher of the Year" honors. Brewer, a teacher at Pine Ridge High School for 27 years, has been recognized in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" and was featured in the Bureau of Indian Affairs' publication, "Twenty Five Women Making a Difference." She is a graduate of Pine Ridge High School and Northern State University. Louis Tyon has been nominated as "Counselor of the Year." According to a news release from the school, he has been instrumental in formulating effective school policies and provides exceptional services to the students. He graduated from Pine Ridge High School, Black Hills State University and the University of Antioch. Lindy Trueblood has been nominated for excellence in dormitory management/counseling. She oversees residential-living services at the school and has helped initiate many innovative changes in that area. She is a graduate of Pine Ridge High School, Munson Business College and Oglala Lakota College. |
