NABI 2003 Announces Sponsorships
Supporting Young Native American Athletes To Reach Their Goals!

by NABI

Basketball HoopPhoenix, AZ - March 4, 2003 - The Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury have agreed to sponsor the Native American Basketball Invitational tournament for Native American high school students July 11-13 in America West Arena.

Suns marketing and communications executive Ray Artigue said Thursday that the first Native American Basketball Invitational -- and the exposure it will provide for teenage American Indian athletes -- marks a "significant milestone." "We're proud to play a part in allowing deserving young athletes the chance to live out a dream of playing basketball on the same court as their heroes in the NBA and WNBA," Artigue said.

Officials at POD Productions, producers of the event, also stated that they are finalizing an agreement with NIKE to also participate as a sponsor. RedNations.com has also been added as another sponsor for the tournament and will be assisting with much of the entertainment for the festivities.

Joe Shirley, President of the Navajo Nation, stated, "the Navajo Nation is in full support of what the Native American Basketball Invitational is doing." "It is because of organizations like NABI, the Phoenix Suns and others who are involved with our youth that many of our youth are very successful with their schooling and life in general."

About POD Productions:
This exciting event is being produced by POD Productions. The team of POD Productions is made up of individuals who have a strong desire to work with Native youth to help them envision a future through education and sports.
