On this anniversary of the Battle of the Little Bighorn (known
in Lakota as P?eí Slá Wakpála Okíchize,
"Battle of the Greasy Grass Stream") we share with permission
a series of Hunkpapa Lakota maps with comments and captions posted
by Dakota Wind, thefirstscout.blogspot.com.
He writes:
Note the orientation, south is at the top of the page in all
but the last. There's a lot more maps drawn by other participants,
but my post here focuses on Hunkpapa Lakota maps.
I saw a post by Mr. Jon Eagle about there being five camps. I
can't disagree with him, but I'd like to share that from maps
drawn by our own people, not everyone says there were five camps
at Little Big Horn.

This
map is attributed to Sitting Bull, but in actuality it was
Sitting Bull and a military cartographer (note the northerly
orientation to this map).
